AVMA CPAC Important Question for IAAAM Members
From Don Stremme, AVMA CPAC member representing zoos, aquaria, and wildlife
RIGHT NOW – URGENT
Veterinarians are caught up in rules/regulations/laws created for human medicine, so we COBTA/CPAC members at AVMA try to respond to this and find ways to prevent inadvertent harm to veterinary practice. We have worked on laws rules/regulations/laws relating to USP, compounding, and prescription labeling, since I have been doing this (5 years), but we are now close to a final result.
My job as a CPAC member is to be sure we zoo/aquarium/wildlife veterinarians can still do the compounding we do in practice lawfully. We just met again the past 2 days (13-14. Oct 2021). It is time to pass the nearly finalized documents on to the AVMA; these will likely eventually become AVMA policy and federal law about our practice of veterinary medicine. This (NOW!) is the time to read these documents and think about how they will or might affect you in practice (cause any problems/issues?) and then to send me any issues you see and give me specific examples. I will then funnel all of these comments to the right person at AVMA to bring them up for possible further changes by December 1st. So, I need your comments by November 25th.
Please see the attached explanatory letter as well as related AVMA documents.
